India's Biggest Akhanda Jothi

On November 14th 2010, India's biggest Akhanda Jothi  (Deepa) was inaugurated by head of Moorusavira Matha at the Hanuman temple in Keshwapur, Hubli. The first big Akhanda Jothi  is in Golden Temple in Nellore and hold 33 KGs. This Hubli Akhanda Jothi  can hold 55 KG of oil and it makes it the biggest Akhanda Jothi .  This Akhanda Jothi  is made of brass and weighs about 16 kgs. This Akhanda Jothi  was donated by Railway retiree Shri Ramachandrappa Rangappa and Smt Gangamma of New Badami Nagar Keshwapur. They plan to donate oil for one full year.

Shri Ramachandrappa says he plans to donate similar one to Shiva temple near Hubli railway station shortly.

A Jothi  which is kept on all the time is called Akhanda Jothi . To do this one would need to make sure oil supply is uninterrupted. So it helps to have the bigger the size of the container.
